Established in 1928, Baku Zoological Park stands as the oldest zoo in Azerbaijan, located in the heart of Baku. This enduring institution has played a critical role in wildlife conservation and animal care within the region.
The park is home to over 1200 animals from different parts of the world, representing about 160 species. Importantly, the zoo has been a focal point in the education and awareness of biodiversity and environmental issues in Azerbaijan.
Throughout its history, the zoo has undergone several renovations and expansions to improve the habitats and living conditions of the animals. One of the notable periods of development was in the early 2000s, when significant efforts were made to modernize the facilities in line with international standards for animal welfare.
Besides its role in conservation, the Baku Zoological Park also serves as a center for cultural and historical education. It offers various programs and tours which delve into the ecological impacts and the conservation needs of the wildlife, providing valuable lessons for both children and adults.
The zoo’s commitment to preserving a diverse biological heritage is evident in its active participation in regional and international wildlife conservation projects.
Visitors to the zoo can explore a wide range of exhibits, ranging from local fauna to exotic animals from around the globe. Each exhibit is designed to educate the public about the natural habitats of these animals and the challenges they face in the wild, thereby fostering a deeper appreciation and respect for nature among the visitors.
