Formula 1 race track

The Baku City Circuit is a prominent Formula 1 race track located in Baku, Azerbaijan. Since its inauguration in 2016, it has been a unique addition to the Formula 1 calendar due to its blend of modern architecture and historic urban scenery. This street circuit is renowned for its distinctive features and challenging layout, which make it one of the most exciting venues in the world of motorsports.

The Baku City Circuit is known for its narrow, winding streets and sharp turns, which navigate through both the modern parts of the city and its historic sections. One of the most notable features of this track is its long straight along the beautiful Baku Boulevard, which runs parallel to the Caspian Sea. This straight offers one of the highest speeds on the F1 calendar, where cars can reach up to 360 km/h (223 mph) before braking hard for a tight corner. The circuit’s layout is a stark contrast of high-speed straights and challenging slow-speed tight turns, including a narrow uphill section that threads through the old city’s walls, passing by landmarks such as the Maiden Tower.

The circuit is approximately 6.003 kilometers long, making it one of the longest in Formula 1. The Baku City Circuit has gained a reputation for being unpredictable and offering dramatic races, as its layout allows for overtaking opportunities and dramatic clashes, which often result in safety cars changing the dynamics of the race.

Hosting a Formula 1 race has significantly boosted Baku’s international profile as a host city for major sporting events. The race weekend attracts a global audience and brings in numerous visitors, which helps promote tourism and local businesses. The city buzzes with excitement and activities, ranging from concerts and cultural showcases to VIP events, making it a festive occasion for both residents and tourists.
