Hərbi Qənimətlər Parkı, or Military Trophy Park, is a symbolic site located in Baku, Azerbaijan, serving as a vivid commemoration of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Opened on April 12, 2021, by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, this park uniquely combines the aspects of a military memorial and a museum, explicitly designed to showcase the armaments, vehicles, and other war artifacts captured from Armenian forces during the conflict.
The park features extensive displays, including tanks, artillery, weapons, and even wax figures of Armenian soldiers, which have been a subject of international scrutiny and debate. Each captured piece is accompanied by detailed plaques providing specifics about the equipment and the contexts in which they were seized. Significant for its educational aspect, the park also aims to narrate the Azerbaijani perspective of the war, reinforcing national pride and victory.
The establishment of this park has, however, stirred considerable controversy and has been viewed by many as a provocative gesture that could hinder the peace process between the two nations.
The park’s location in Baku, the heart of Azerbaijan, and its detailed exhibitions not only serve as a stark reminder of the recent hostilities but also as a tool for instilling a sense of victory and resilience among the Azerbaijani population.
Visitors to the park can gain deep insights into the scale and intensity of the military operations during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, reflecting on the profound impacts such conflicts have on nations and their people.
