Həzi Aslanov Qəbirüstü Abidəsi

The Həzi Aslanov Memorial in Baku, Azerbaijan, commemorates the exceptional life and heroics of Həzi Aslanov, an esteemed Major-General of the Soviet Union’s tank troops during World War II.

Born on January 22, 1910, in Lankaran, Aslanov swiftly rose through military ranks due to his outstanding bravery and tactical nous. Həzi Aslanov distinguished himself in the Battle of Stalingrad, one of the fiercest confrontations of the war, earning the Hero of the Soviet Union accolade for his leadership. He further enhanced his reputation during the battles for the liberation of Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv and Zhytomyr. In 1945, during the Budapest Offensive, Aslanov met a heroic but tragic end, solidifying his legacy as a symbol of valor. His death on January 24, 1945, occurred just as his unit was engaging enemy forces, demonstrating his commitment to the mission until the very end.

The memorial at Baku, designed to honor his memory and contributions, was inaugurated in 1975. The site features a bronze bust of Aslanov on a high pedestal, overlooking the Caspian Sea, symbolizing his unwavering vigilance.

A focal point of national pride, this site not only serves as a tribute to Aslanov’s heroic deeds but also as an educational landmark that recounts his significant contributions to the Soviet military achievements during one of the most challenging periods in world history.
