Təzə Pir Mosque

Təzə Pir Mosque, located in Baku, Azerbaijan, stands as a splendid example of Islamic architecture in the Caucasus region.

Originally constructed in 1914, this mosque initially served the local Shiite community. The mosque’s design reflects a blend of traditional Azerbaijani and Persian architectural styles, characterized by its intricate decorations and the prominent use of turquoise and blue tiles.

The history of Təzə Pir Mosque stretches back to the early 20th century when philanthropist Nabat Ashurbeyov funded its construction. Over the decades, it survived various political upheavals, including the Soviet era, when religious expression was severely restricted. Despite these challenges, the mosque has remained an important center of religious and community life.

The building is adorned with splendid ornaments and scriptures from the Quran, and it features a large dome and two minarets that are visible from afar. The interior is equally impressive, with lavish decorations including detailed tile work, elaborate carvings, and stained glass windows that create a serene ambiance for worship.

In recent years, the mosque has undergone several restorations to preserve its beauty and structural integrity.

Today, it not only serves as a place of worship but also as a monument, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan and the Islamic world. The Təzə Pir Mosque continues to attract visitors and worshippers alike, drawn by its historical significance and architectural grandeur.
